The Battle of Maltepe is also known as the Battle of Eskihisar. Most historians believe that the battle happened in Istanbul Maltepe, but according to the records of Halil Inalcık in the first volume of Devlet-i Aliyye, it actually happened on the plain near Eskihisar.
Andronikos III, the Byzantine Emperor, and Orhan Bey, the Ottoman ruler, were in a war. In the end, the Ottomans won and Andronikos had to flee to Istanbul, hurt and barely escaping with his life.
