The Zumrud-u Phoenix, also known as the Simurga, is a mythical bird. It is said that its tears have healing powers and that it can burn itself and then come back to life from its own ashes.

A group of birds set out on a long and difficult journey to find the sultan behind the Kafdagi. Along the way, those who lacked determination and were too attached to worldly things dropped out. When they reached the Kafdagi, they had to cross seven valleys, each more difficult than the last: Desire, Love, Ingenuity, Istigna, Tawhid, Astonishment, and Absence. Only thirty birds were able to make it through all seven valleys, and instead of finding the sultan, they were met with a surprise.
