Nicolas Duvauchelle, who was in the movie, and especially the character Wahina Giocante, used the passing of time as a way to tell the story. The message the film wants to convey is that time passes quickly and can't be taken back. The movie doesn't have any other tricks. If you want to watch a French agent movie, my suggestion is L'Affaire Farewell. It may sound boring, but it does a better job of describing a certain period of time.

State Secret is a 2008 French thriller-intelligence film directed by Philippe Haim. It stars Gérard Lanvin, Vahina Giocante, and Nicolas Duvauchelle. The movie follows the French intelligence service DGSE as they fight against terrorism. 70% of the movie was shot with handheld cameras and an alternative ending was added to the DVD version. Vahina Giocante learned some Arabic for the movie. The main characters in the movie are Alex, Diane/Lisa, Pierre, Ahmed, Léla/Chadia, Pierre's mother, Take Barad, Jérômy, Aline, and Saint. You can find more information about the movie on IMDB.com and Wikipedia, and watch the trailer online.

The movie is saying that when diplomatic efforts don't work, sending a woman to get information can be an effective way for countries to spy on each other. This is known as a "honey trap".

Wow! Ten years ago, the police arrested a 22-year-old man named Kouachi for helping militants get to Iraq. In an interview from that time, Kouachi said he wasn't religious, but he liked to drink, smoke marijuana, hang out with his girlfriend, and work in a pizzeria. He also liked to sing and dance. In 2008, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison and said his main interest was rap music. It's amazing to think about how similar this is to a movie theme. Wow!
