Rumeli is an area with no clear boundaries, especially to the north. It is named after the first province of the Ottoman Empire in Europe, which did not actually exist. Its eastern border is the Black Sea, the Straits, and the Marmara Sea. It is not clear if the Aegean Islands are included in Rumeli. The name Rumeli comes from the word "Roman" and is still used today. Very long ago, it was known as Urumeli or Rum in Anatolia.
