In 1990, Milan and Naples were competing to be the Italian champions. Milan had already won the European championship, so if Naples won the Italian championship the following year, Italy would have two teams in the cup. The Italian Football Federation and Naples manager Moggi started working together to make sure Naples won. Verona, who had been relegated, beat Milan, but it was suspicious because a lot of red cards were given out and even the world-famous player Marco van Basten was kicked out. Juventus noticed this and decided to sign the player right away.
